New York City, November 1, 2021 – The Society for Corporate Governance celebrates its 75th anniversary this week with a Nasdaq Closing Bell ringing today by Society President & CEO, Darla Stuckey; Society Chair, Jeffrey Pochowicz, Senior Director – Corporate Governance & Assistant Corporate Secretary, McDonald’s Corporation; and other former Chairs. On November 6, 1946, a group of business leaders met to form the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, which has evolved into a growing, robust, and diverse national association for corporate governance professionals now known as the Society for Corporate Governance.
“As we mark three quarters of a century, corporate governance has become mainstream and the role of the corporate secretary has been elevated. The Society has been there throughout this journey. From the post-war boom to Sarbanes-Oxley, Say on Pay, and sustainability, the Society has helped companies respond to the changing expectations of shareholders, regulators, and lawmakers,” observed Stuckey.
“It is an honor to be Chair of the Board during the Society’s 75th year. We are a strong community that collaborates to advance governance issues, educate our members, and solve problems. We salute those before us and eagerly look forward to empowering governance professionals to create long-term value for stakeholders for the next 75 years,” added Chair Pochowicz.
This begins a year-long celebration marking the Society’s 75-year legacy of education, networking, and advocacy for practitioners in the corporate governance community. “To recognize this anniversary, we will celebrate our achievements, and highlight our members, partners, and service providers, throughout the year,” commented Stuckey. A short video series launching with the “Value of Membership” has been released. Additional videos will highlight chapters, advocacy, the history of governance, service providers, and more. The celebration will continue with an anniversary reception at its Essentials for Corporate Governance Conference on January 25 - 27, 2022, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and will culminate with a gala event on June 22, 2022, at the National Conference in Chicago, Illinois.
