SEC Climate Rule FAQs

By Randi Morrison posted 9 days ago

A worthwhile read for any company subject to the SEC’s currently stayed climate rule, Skadden’s memo: “SEC Climate Disclosure Rules: Your Questions Answered” summarizes questions and answers addressed in a recent webinar about the new rules. Coverage includes the definition of a “climate-related” risk, board committee oversight disclosure, materiality determination disclosure, Scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions disclosure (or the absence thereof) and assurance, and financial statement disclosure.

See also “SEC Staff Clarifies Climate Disclosure Sticking Points” (Chief Investment Officer), which notes key takeaways regarding financial statement disclosure on severe weather events and natural conditions and Scopes 1 and 2 emissions disclosure from a recent Ceres-hosted webinar on the rule, and additional resources on our Climate Risk & Disclosure page.
