BarkerGilmore's newly-released annual In-House Counsel Compensation Report reveals a significant gender pay gap among GCs, Managing Counsel, and Senior Counsel - with female counsel, on average, earning 84% of what male counsel earn. The gap is widest at the GC level, with female GCs earning just 78% of what male GCs earn at the median ($412K vs. $525K, respectively). Also noteworthy: 41% of respondents believe their compensation is below or significantly below their peers in other organizations, with Labor & Employment and Litigation lawyers perceiving the greatest gaps relative to their respective peers.

The 18-question online survey was conducted from February to April 2018. The report summarizes responses from 1,701 GCs, Managing Counsel, and Senior Counsel collectively and by position level across industries and practice areas. See pages 8 - 9 for detail on the demographics.
