Keying off last week's report: "Enhancing Board Effectiveness: Here's How," Directors & Boards' new article: "Rethinking Director Onboarding" identifies a number of relatively recent trends that have transformed the new director orientation process from a historically, largely informal, ad hoc event to a must-have process that should be institutionalized at the board level, comprehensive (but tailored to incoming directors' unique circumstances), and regularly reassessed and tweaked over time to reflect the rapidly changing macro environment and company-specific circumstances. The article suggests a number of considerations in developing and/or reassessing an effective director onboarding program.
