Nasdaq Releases Global Voluntary ESG Reporting Guide

By Randi Morrison posted 05-27-2019 10:46 PM

Nasdaq released a global ESG reporting guide for all public and private companies to assist them in their voluntary ESG disclosure efforts in the context of the most commonly used reporting methodologies and frameworks, e.g., GRI, UN Global Compact (UNGC) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SASB, TCFD. The guidance encompasses these 30 ESG metrics Nasdaq identified as the most meaningful, practical, and achievable, allocated evenly across each of the Environmental, Social, and Governance categories:

Each metric is described with reference to these additional insights, if/as relevant:

  • Why is it measured?
  • How is it measured?
  • Why is it disclosed?
  • How is it disclosed?
  • Connections to commonly used frameworks
  • % of companies reporting

The guide contemplates voluntary annual reporting on each of the metrics on a "respond or explain" basis. For example, omission on a particular metric could be explained by its company-specific immateriality.
