Pandemic Crystallizes Ideal Director Profile

In "The New Normal In Governance: A Paradigm Shift?" (Corporate Board Member), RHR International summarizes input from client directors representing more than 60 boards about whether and how the pandemic is changing the value proposition and contribution a board needs to deliver and required director attributes/qualifications. While all companies have been experiencing the pandemic differently and have varying priorities (ranging from survival to innovation) depending on their current stage of pandemic response, the perspectives consistently emphasize the importance of seasoned, confident directors with robust business experience who can comfortably manage and adapt to uncertainty and act swiftly in a crisis-type environment and - even more challenging - to do so remotely for the foreseeable future.

Common focal points among directors include workforce health and safety, management support, more frequent and focused (virtual) engagement among and between the board and management, and leveraging the value of lessons learned.

Also noteworthy is RHR's observation: "Many directors commented about the efficiency of virtual meetings and how much time and wear and tear are saved by not having to travel for in-person meetings."
