Based on input from diversity experts and corporate professionals, "Your Company Says Diversity Is a Higher Priority. Now What?" from the WSJ suggests actions that companies can consider to ensure they are "walking their talk" on dismantling racism and promoting racial justice.
Among the sound recommendations are standardizing hiring practices to eliminate "cultural fit" and other biases that may inadvertently taint the decision-making process and backing people of color in the ordinary course, which may include, e.g., being more thoughtful about off-premises gathering places to ensure that everyone feels welcome or speaking up when a colleague makes an inappropriate comment in lieu of remaining silent. The latter suggestion in particular inspires action on an individual level regardless of one's position in the organization, i.e., everyone can play a role in effecting positive change. The article counsels readers to consider where/how they can make a difference and to contribute accordingly.
