State Street collaborated with Russell Reynolds Associates and The Ford Foundation to develop this best practice guidance for the board's oversight of racial and ethnic diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). Based on input from academic and policy experts and S&P 500 and FTSE 100 directors, the new paper includes a discussion of the chief risks and opportunities that drive the board’s oversight of DE&I and associated performance indicators, and ten recommended oversight practices. The insights and recommendations are accompanied by anonymized director commentary and specific attribution in certain cases. The list of participating directors, which included approximately 50% women and nearly two-thirds individuals of color, is on page 3.
