Companies Reevaluate Engagement on Sensitive Social Issues

The Wall Street Journal’s “Companies That Embraced Social Issues Have Second Thoughts” discusses why many companies are reevaluating or more deliberately evaluating for the first time their public engagement on controversial social issues, in many cases having experienced or observed backlash from multiple stakeholder groups in response to speaking out. The article provides examples of companies that have reviewed their policies and practices for publicly weighing in on such issues and the processes they have developed to guide their decision-making as to whether and how to enter the fray going forward.
