The Center for Political Accountability released this “Guide to Corporate Political Spending,” which is aimed at assisting companies in navigating the challenges and risks associated with political spending decisions. The guide, which is designed to complement the CPA’s Model Code of Conduct (but which can also be used on a standalone basis), suggests discrete action items in response to five challenges companies face in navigating this area, including, e.g., reputational risks associated with perceived disconnects between specific political contributions and corporate values. The content of the Guide was reportedly informed by senior executives at several companies with the highest scores in the annual CPA-Zicklin Index.
