The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that PCAOB Chair Erica Williams indicated in a hearing on Capitol Hill that the PCAOB would hold a public roundtable in 2024 on its proposed audit standard on noncompliance with laws and regulations (“NOCLAR”), which the Society commented on here. While Chair Williams reportedly did not provide additional detail such that any conclusions can be drawn, the plans for a public roundtable imply that adoption of the standard is not imminent or assured. In addition to our comment letter, a group of Society members and Society staff engaged with PCAOB staff in early October to elaborate on members’ concerns about the proposed standard.
