Executive Security Disclosure: State of Play

Security Perquisites Among Top 500 U.S. Public Companies” from Compensation Advisory Partners shares executive personal security prevalence and cost data for S&P 500 companies for the most recently disclosed completed fiscal year (2023).

Just over one-quarter (26%) of the S&P 500 disclosed personal security arrangements for their CEO. Prevalence varied fairly significantly by industry, as shown here:

In comparison, 15% of companies overall (also variable by industry) disclosed personal security arrangements for non-CEOs.

Of those companies that disclosed specific costs of security perks, the median disclosed cost for CEOs was $96K, which reflects a range from $224 to $23 million. The median disclosed cost for non-CEOs was $15K, reflecting a range from $288 to $3 million.
